Opening tentoonstelling Instituto Cervantes; 50 jaar democratisering van Spanje In-Person
50 Years of Spain in Liberty: The Spanish Transition
On November 20, 1975, dictator Francisco Franco died. This marked the beginning of a democratization process in Spain—a time of hope, but also of crises and the real danger of relapse. The Netherlands and Europe played an important, sometimes decisive, role in this process.
To mark the 50th anniversary of the Spanish transition to democracy, the Instituto Cervantes Utrecht and Utrecht University Library invite you to the inauguration of a short exhibition that will explore some of the most defining moments of this turbulent period.
Dr. Stefanie Massink, Assistant Professor in History of International Relations (Utrecht University), will give a short lecture on the Netherlands and the Spanish transition.
Thijn Hendrickx, alumnus of the Master's program in International Relations in Historical Perspective (Utrecht University), will talk about the development of the exhibition.
The event (in English) will conclude with drinks. Afterwards, there will be an opportunity to view the exhibition in the hall of Utrecht University Library.
